REN Rosa Centifolia Hot Cloth Cleanser & Foaming Cleanser review

This is my 2nd go at REN’s Rosa Centifolia’s cleansers the first being their 3 in 1 cleansing water. What keeps me interested in the range is probably the price, aesthetics, quality and scent.

I am a huge fan of Fresh but the only way I can get hold of them is by ordering from the US and while I enjoy using their products, I sometimes can’t help but find it to be overpriced. REN on the other hand is a lot cheaper and easier to get hold of – Mecca Cosmetica in Australia.

On to the reviews.

The foaming cleanser is a great alternative to Fresh’s Rose Foaming Cleanser.¬†Your skin will still feel hydrated after a cleanse but keep in mind that it won’t be a thorough cleanse. Follow up with a cotton pad soaked with toner if you need to.

It retails for AUD26.00 at Mecca.

The hot cloth cleanser comes with a small face towel which you are meant to soak in warm water, squeeze dry with your hands and apply it over your face once you’ve applied the cleanser to your skin. Wipe it off your face using the same cloth. It does irritate my eyes slightly like the cleansing water does. On stubborn Japanese mascara, you would need a separate eye makeup remover but in general does a good job in removing makeup and keeping your skin hydrated. This is an alternative to hot cloth cleansers like Liz Earle but I prefer this version as it doesn’t feel as if I have something sitting on my skin after removing in from my face. I always double cleanse with the foaming cleanser just in case.

It retails for AUD32.00 at Mecca. The reviews for this specific cleanser has been really good.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Discovery Set / Fragrance Wardrobe for Her

My love for this perfume house started years ago when I was able to try the range at Mecca Cosmetica’s Sydney CBD counter at Myer. Few years forward, I finally got my hands on APOM (A piece of me) which I’ve previously reviewed. It’s still one a favourite but I get bored easily.

Some of you might know that Francis Kurkdjian’s perfumes are actually pretty expensive ūüė¶ so I’ve never really been able to buy¬†Lumi√®re Noire or Aqua Universalis which has always been on my wishlist.

A recent trip to Malaysia and an unplanned stop to the perfume’s counter in Pavilion KL saw me come home with this beautiful set which I think is such good value if you have too many perfumes like me and can’t seem to stop buying more. It was RM550. I was told that this was a limited edition release for Christmas and I never saw it make an appearance at Mecca here in Australia. You get 8 x 11ml spray bottles which is so handy for travelling too!

I’m also going to say thanks here to the two SAs who served me on the day who were so friendly and non pushy :).

This is the best way to try their most popular (and almost all) of their female releases. I’ve got Aqua Universalis on today, it’s a cool 23 degrees and I’m so surprised that it’s still going strong for an Eau de Toilette. I’m pretty sure it won’t fare as well if the weather were anymore hotter / humid.

From their official website (which you can shop from too)

An invitation to discover the expressive world of Maison Francis Kurkdjian through eight fragrances which dress an exceptional fragrance wardrobe for her. A selection created with the utmost sophistication for wearing divine fragrances both night and day.

A collection to wear, to take away or to offer as a gift.

SK-II Cellumination Deep Surge and Day Surge Review

I’ve been on and off deep surge over the years trying new products but I’ve now decided to stick to it. It works best for my skin. It’s ridiculously expensive and sometimes I think there probably is another product that’s cheaper and works as well but I have yet to come across one.

I’ve been struggling with keeping my skin hydrated, even when I used something that was heavier it was never hydrating enough. It never gets oily and the rose scent is really calming. I’d rate this a lot higher than stem power which is so-so.

I’ve also decided to start using sunscreen so in my attempt to do so I decided to try something with SPF included. The deep surge I use at night, during the day I use day surge. Deep surge is a gel / jelly texture and day surge is a thicker gel texture. Can’t say which one is better, day surge doesn’t make me break out either, goes on and absorbs into my skin pretty quickly so I would say they are both great with different functions.

Definitely give this range ago, so much better than the stempower range.

Crabtree & Evelyn Avocado, Olive and Basil

Did a bit of shopping today when I heard that this range was out and they were offering introductory prices. Picked up the shower gel and mini hand therapies for RM45 and RM38 respectively. Pretty good deal if you ask me! I was really tempted to get the body cream but after my recent experience with the citron and coriander body souffle, I think not.

Have I ever mentioned before L’occitane, this brand used to be my first love for body products, candles an home fragrances?

My thoughts on the scent is that it’s really green. None of the notes are distinct but I feel the olive stands out the most. I only used a little and it lathered really well. Great pick me up for the morning. On with the pictures.

How cute is the shopping bag. I never noticed it

Got this today as well

SK-II Facial Treatment Gentle Cleansing Cream Review

My skin gets congested very easily so it’s important that I double cleanse after using cleansing oil / milk / cream to remove my makeup. This is the only exception.

I was intrigued when I first saw this released but couldn’t get a sample to try and during my trip to Hong Kong I bought in on blind faith that it’s SK-II, how bad can it get?

Not only was it not a disappointment, it’s everything I’ve been looking for!

I spread a dollop of this onto my dry face, massage it a little to get the make up off and then first wipe it with my 3M exfoliating cloth (damp) before rinsing it off with water. I find it more effective and quick using a wash cloth over cotton pads. What impressed me most was how it was emollient enough on the face yet so easy to rinse off afterwards with no yucky oily residue which is why I have never been a fan off cleansing milk and oil.

I’ve tried this on light and heavy makeup, it’s performed well on both with the exception of waterproof mascaras. I suggest you pre-remove eye makeup with something more suitable prior to using this. I’ve also gotten this in my eyes several times and it does sting a bit.

The scent itself is light rose, nothing too strong or worth shouting about.

It’s been almost 7 weeks and I have a little over half a tub left meaning a full tub would last me about 3 months plus which makes this a hefty investment as a tub should set you back around rm210 at least if my memory serves me correct but I paid HKD410 which makes it cheaper by RM50.

A cheaper and similar alternative is ultimation cleansing cream by Kose which is cheaper but richer and more emollient so I would have to double cleanse.

A Mani + Pedi fit for the year of the dragon!

This is the first time I’ve had a mani + pedi for chinese new year. I never used to be around early enough to get my nails professionally done back then and I think it’s a luxury in life I can do without unlike facials, massages and brow shaping which you clearly need an expert’s help.

Aside from colour, the classic pedicure includes the works – trim, cuticle, filing, they use this paddle to get rid of rough skin on your feet, a leg scrub and quick massage. Classic manicure was pretty much the same except you don’t get a hand scrub, just a massage. The whole thing took about 1.5 hours, it’s quite long but the seats are comfy (if only they reclined!) and has a peaceful ambience so you could actually have a nap while you’re at it!

If I ever get another afternoon off and feel like splurging, this would be my favourite pick.

Sothys products – my review

My experience with French skincare is limited to Darphin & Payot. I invested in a huge amount of Payot products but unfortunately it never yielded the results I wanted. Now I just stick to their body products.

Back to Sothys, I never paid much attention to the brand until I actually had my facial at 128 Faubourg.  After several visits, I signed up for a plan and purchased 3 products listed below and was delighted to receive a trial kit as well. The RRP for the prodcuts are RM800+.

Were they all things wonderful? My answer: The basics were decent but when it comes to the products that should’ve mattered, it didn’t work for me.

  1. Sothys Normalizing Beauty Milk (trial size x 2)
I liked this. It’s so nice and comfortable against the skin and it has a mildly refreshing sugar / lemongrass scent to it that reminds me of Payot Delicious Scrub. It’s not too oily to rinse off but I still double cleanse because it’s not effective on it’s own in removing makeup and there’s a little bit of residue left on your face if you don’t double cleanse.
  2. Sothys Normalizing Toner (trial size x 2 )
Nothing bad nor great about this. Scent is too overpowering but hasn’t had any negative effects on my skin and is hydrating
  3. Sothys Purifying Gel (trial size x 1)
Interesting gel-like texture, I enjoyed using this. A little goes a long way with cery little foam but does a decent job in cleansing the skin, it also doesn’t leave the skin feeling tight.
  4. Sothys Hydra Matte (trial size x 1)
If I were younger (think early 20s) and had oilier skin, this would have been a star product for me. I used this on top of the serum (item 5 below), it helped make my t-zone less oily, perfect light moisturizer.
  5. Sothys Hydroptimale THI3 serum (full size – discontinued)
I was told my skin was de-hydrated and needed intense hydration. I used this religiously for 2 months since I ran out of SK-II. It made my skin really oily and my forehead became insanely congested. The oil slick on my t-zone was horrid and was marginally better when I used Hydra Matte on top of the serum as opposed to normal moisturizer. Such a waste to not finish such an expensive product.
  6. Sothys Active Contour eye cream (full size)
I would have to apply multiple times because the first layer would make the skin around my eyes feel so tight. Not sure if it has anything to do with this but during the 2 months I was using this, I had several people comment on my dark eye circles.
  7. Sothys Desquacrem  (full size)
This is meant to rid your skin of impurities. I use it¬†occasionally¬†in the shower for my face and pits (it makes your pits fairer apparently). It’s easy enough to use and comforting against the skin but I haven’t seen any results from this, definitely nothing similar to those great reviews this product has received on MUA. I prefer my purifying balm from Darphin.
