Finally!

First impressions, this reminds me of Sakura Cherry Blossom.

From Jomalone.com:

Delicately exotic. This white flower captures the duality of apricot counterpoised with supple leather. Luminous petitgrain and luscious peach and orange flower ripple over voluptuous cashmere wood.

Well, maybe it’s just my skin but it must’ve just skipped everything and went straight to the base which comes across as being quite musky.

No apricot, leather, petit grain, peach or orange flower. It doesn’t necessarily come across as smelling fresh like how most reviews have suggested. It starts off smelling a lot sharper but glad to say the dry down is softer and more soothing.

Suggest you ladies try this at the store before buying it. Available at Jo Malone Pavillion Malaysia.

Diptyque L’eau du Trente-Quatre

I was so excited when I heard about L’eau du Trente-Quatre. I was itching for something new from Diptyque and the description sounded right up my alley.

L’eau Du Trente-Quatre is a lively interpretation of the original 34 during the time when the weather changes and the greenest notes take over from the warmer and more sensual notes of 34 boulevard saint germain.

The top notes include a flight of bitter orange, verbena, lemon, grapefruit, and lavender, spiced up with a dash of nutmeg, juniper berries and cinnamon tree leaves. A green note of birch tree leaf, from Philosykos adds a lively freshness to the fragrance. The heart is structured around Egyptian geranium, voluptuous tuberose on a base of Virginian cedarwood, patchouli, a splash of incense and Spanish cist. Lastly, bright musks balance the fragrance with just the right amount of mellowness and sensuality.

I got a text about RSVP-ing for the launch of the Pavilion store and the perfume and was so bummed I had to work otherwise it would’ve been fun. The same weekend, I went to Isetan KLCC but they didn’t have the tester for this yet so I was a happy camper when I was given a sample (from Ken’s apothecary).

I was worried this would be too similar to the original but they are both quite different. The original is warm and sensual, I find it skews more towards the masculine side. This one is green, bright and more feminine. On me the blackcurrant really stands out and for one second I thought ‘L’ombre?!’.

It stays on my skin for at least 6 hours which is actually pretty good for Eau de Toilette but then again all 3 bottles of Diptyques that I own do pretty well on the longevity side.

On a side note if you ever head to Paris, you have to spend time in St-Germain. I’ve had several friends asking me where to stay and I would recommend St-Germain over Le Marais (where I stayed).

Price: RM369 50ml / RM469 100ml. Diptyque can be found in Isetan KLCC, BV2, Pavilion and Empire.

Jo Malone Earl Grey & Cucumber

To this day I am slapping myself for being kiam siap and not picking up Assam and grapefruit when I had the chance but fortunately I can now get my hands on earl grey and cucumber which is no longer limited edition.

Kind of risky seeing I only tried it once but I really fancied the idea of an earl grey scent on myself. Fortunately, it was a good call.

The earl grey note doesn’t fade away and the beeswax is prominent on my skin. Love it.

Purchased duty free gbp 30.40 which is around rm160. Bargain!!!

Maison Francis Kurkdjian – APOM pour femme

Took me 2 yrs before I got a bottle and another 6 months before I used it.

I was sure I loved it yet was worried I’d regret it as soon as I got my own bottle.

Now that I’ve taken the first spray I am still in love. You won’t have longevity issues with this. It’s warm, prominent orange flower note almost crossing into soapy territory but fortunately not yet. I worry this would be a bit much for the humid weather in Malaysia and actually prefer this as a winter scent but we’ll see.

I bought mine in Paris thinking I got a much better deal. In fact, that’s not the case they must’ve reduced the price in Malaysia as i was told during a recent visit to their Isetan KLCC counter that its now RM510 (for pour femme) which makes it close to the euro115 price for a 75ml EDP bottle. I was also fortunate enough to receive a 5ml spray of Amyris pour femme as a gift with purchase. I find that staff at the Isetan counter have been really friendly so far, so if I ever had the chance I would try and get a bottle from them next time.

Jo Malone Sugar and Spice

2012 & 2013 seems to be marked by many Jo Malone and Diptyque purchases.

Got to play with the sugar and spice collection while I was in Hong Kong several weeks ago.

To be honest, none of them wow-ed me but I felt guilty since the SA spent so much time walking me through the range so I ended up with a bottle of lemon tart. This was the one scent from the range that I thought I wouldn’t like yet this was my favourite. Redcurrant and cream comes a close 2nd.

Elderflower and gooseberry was a disappointment. Not very green and boring. This I thought would’ve been my favourite.

My boyfriend told me that there are only 2 scents left at the pavilion store.

Price: These are limited edition selling for hkd525 and I think it’s rm225 in Malaysia. Comes in 30ml.

Jo Malone Sakura Cherry Blossom

Everytime I see Cherry Blossom being the theme of a fragrance / skin & body care, the first thing that comes to mind is – another fad to appeal to us girls and ladies.

I’ve never had the opportunity to witness to experience the real scent of cherry blossoms hence, I could never discern the note of a cherry blossom in fragrances or beauty products.

Cherry Blossoms

I’ve never been interested in picking up any cherry blossom scented products (I’m thinking L’occitane & The Body Shop) but this little feature on the fragrance that got me interested.

It’s described in the feature as follows:

Working with Master Perfumer, Christine Nagel, the Jo Malone Creative Studio in London has created an exquisite interpretation of cherry blossom, bringing it to life with layers of rose, and mimosa accented with the freshness of bergamot and mandarin. The result is a powdery fragrance, contrasted by a base of musk and woods.

I like my bottle of Sakura Cherry Blossom enough. It’s not a scent that I already have, distinct enough to stand out and not your typical fruity floral but more towards the sweet side.

I got my bottle from Lane Crawford HK for HKD$505 (USD$68 based on the latest exchange rate)/30ml. 100ml retails for HKD$980. This should be also available in Bangkok.
